Blog Post 3

While watching the videos and slideshows, I learned that there are many different ways that people use to peer edit an individuals work. Some are pushy, loud, mean, off-task, and many more. The best way that I learned to peer edit was be to be positive. When you are editing someone else's work, you have to think about how you would feel if someone was editing your work. It's important for you to be polite and have a very positive attitude when you are editing someone's work. Always start out by using compliments stating whether he or she did well on the assignment. Also, give them helpful suggestions on how to make their work even better. Be specific about what you are correcting on their paper. The main goal is to be very postive when you peer edit other people's work because nobody is perfect!

  1. Staying positive is the number one thing to do when peer editing even if the piece of work is garbage! You hit the nail on the head right there. Another way to make sure no feelings are hurt is the try and put your advice in the nicest sentence possible. Nobody is perfect and nobody is always right, so with that being said mistakes are always made and it is always nice to have those mistakes caught by a peer and them tell you in a very nice and sincere way.

  2. Hey Sydney, I agree that it is important for the reviewer to stay positive throughout the peer editing process. I also think it's key to be clear and concise when evaluating someone's performance. I know from my own personal experience I did not like peers reviewing my work who regularly critiqued it without giving me any helpful suggestions. I believe in encouraging the writer throughout the process is important because you do not want the writer to become discouraged. Offer suggestions that are beneficial to the writer so that he or she won't make the same mistakes twice. So I agree nobody is perfect. It does nobody any good to humiliate someone and it's important to understand every writer brings their own knowledge, skills, and attitudes into the classroom.
